Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ki-Jana Hoever has admitted he must be ready for a demanding test after completing a season-long loan move to Championship side Stoke City. The 21-year-old, who joined Wolves from Liverpool in 2020, is eager to make the most of his temporary switch to the bet365 Stadium.
Hoever Acknowledges Challenge Ahead
Speaking to the club's official website, Hoever said: "I've got to be ready. The Championship is a tough league, and I know I'll face a physical and competitive test every week. But that's what I want – to play regularly and show everyone what I can do."
The Dutch youth international has struggled for game time at Molineux, making just 25 appearances in all competitions since his arrival. Last season, he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Turkish club Rizespor, where he featured 13 times.
Opportunity for Regular Football
At Stoke, Hoever is expected to slot into the right-back position, a role he has often filled for the Potters' manager Alex Neil. The move offers the former Ajax academy product a chance to gain valuable experience and prove his credentials to Wolves' coaching staff.
Wolves' technical director, Matt Hobbs, explained the decision: "Ki-Jana needs to play regularly at a good level. Stoke is a fantastic club with a strong squad, and we believe this loan will benefit his development immensely. He has the quality to make an impact in the Championship."
Stoke City's Ambitions
Stoke City, who finished 16th in the Championship last season, are looking to push towards the play-off places under Neil. The addition of Hoever adds depth to their defensive options, with the club also bringing in other new signings during the summer transfer window.
Hoever is not the only Wolves player to head out on loan this summer, as the club looks to trim its squad and give young talents first-team experience. The defender will link up with his new teammates ahead of Stoke's opening fixture against Rotherham United.
International Prospects
Having represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, Hoever is also eyeing a potential senior call-up. Regular Championship football could boost his chances of catching the eye of national team selectors.
With a point to prove, Hoever is determined to make his loan spell a success. As he put it: "I'm ready to work hard, learn, and help the team. This is a big season for me."
