Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly preparing to reignite their interest in Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas, with a cut-price January move now a distinct possibility.
The Greek international, 24, has been a persistent target for the Premier League club and has now spoken publicly about his future in Italy amid intensifying links to Molineux.
Mandas addresses Wolves transfer speculation
In an interview shared by journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Mandas confirmed he has held no direct talks with Wolves but hinted at a future move. "I haven't spoken to the club," Mandas stated. "I'm focused on work and waiting for the right moment: only in this way can I improve, but I haven't spoken to anyone."
He emphasised his current commitment to Lazio, adding: "I don't want to cause problems in this great atmosphere. I want to help the team." Mandas is battling to become first choice at the Stadio Olimpico ahead of Ivan Provedel, having recently kept a clean sheet in a Coppa Italia win over AC Milan.

The pursuit of Mandas comes against the backdrop of a defensive crisis at Wolves. The team has endured a torrid start to the season, conceding 29 goals in their first 14 league matches without registering a single victory. This marks the worst points return from any Premier League side since Sheffield United in the 2020/21 campaign.
The goalkeeping situation has been a major concern. Long-time number one Jose Sa began the season poorly and has been relegated to a fringe role, while summer signing Sam Johnstone has failed to fully convince despite some improved performances. Johnstone's costly error in the recent defeat to Nottingham Forest highlighted the ongoing instability.

Christos Mandas represents a younger, long-term option for Wolves. At 24, he is seen as a potential cornerstone for the future. His record at Lazio shows 12 clean sheets in 32 appearances for the club, conceding 27 goals. He has also been capped twice by Greece.
Crucially, recent reports indicate his market value has plummeted. From an estimated £15m-£20m, Mandas could now be available for around £6m in the upcoming January transfer window. This presents a significant opportunity for Wolves to secure a target they have monitored for over a year at a fraction of the expected cost.
