Chris Davies Reveals Marvin Ducksch Wish with Birmingham City Braced for Transfer Interest
Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has openly shared his desire for striker Marvin Ducksch to have been fully fit from the outset of the Championship season, while also expressing confidence that the forward can still achieve 15 goals this campaign. This comes as the club anticipates potential transfer interest in the player during the upcoming summer window.
Ducksch's Impact and Injury Struggles
Marvin Ducksch has netted 11 goals across all competitions for Birmingham City this season, with 10 of those coming in the Championship. His recent form has been particularly impressive, with seven goals scored in 2026 alone, including a crucial free-kick in last weekend's draw against Sheffield United.
However, the 32-year-old German international's season has been hampered by injuries. He arrived at Blues in August with a calf issue and suffered a second injury during a warm-up at Coventry in late September, which significantly delayed his integration into the team. Ducksch did not make his second Championship start until November, with his first goals for the club coming by the end of that month.
Davies' Praise and Tactical Considerations
In an interview with BBC Radio WM, Davies highlighted Ducksch's quality, stating, "I watched him in the Bundesliga and he looked a good player, he's translated that to the Championship." He added, "He's got 10 goals, I'd fancy him to finish the season with 15 goals which I think would be a really good return for him."
Davies lamented the missed opportunities due to Ducksch's fitness issues, saying, "I just wish he came in fitter. He was injured in pre-season and then got injured again. We could have got a lot more out of this season if we could have had him for the whole season." Despite this, he praised Ducksch's reliability and leadership qualities, noting that other players gravitate towards him and hold great respect for him.
The manager also addressed Ducksch's playing style, acknowledging that he is not an all-action player but excels in key moments. "What I always come back to with Marvin is he's a good finisher, he's scored open play goals and has that extra bit of quality," Davies explained. He emphasized the need to build the team around such players, focusing on tactical setups to maximize their impact, whether deployed as a nine or a ten.
Transfer Speculation and Fan Reactions
With Birmingham City's promotion hopes to the Premier League looking unlikely this season, rumours have begun to circulate regarding a possible exit for Ducksch this summer. The former Werder Bremen striker joined Blues with ambitions of reaching the top flight, and his future at St Andrew's is now under scrutiny.
Ducksch has divided opinion among Birmingham City fans during his debut season. While his goal-scoring ability is undeniable, some performances have been lacklustre, contrasting with his standout moments. Davies acknowledged this, stating, "It's right to note that he isn't that all action player you can constantly notice in a game, he can look like he's not involved and then he can pop up."
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Ducksch's contributions and whether he can help drive Birmingham City forward, amidst growing speculation about his future at the club.
