Former Wolves Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen Opens Up on Molineux Pressure and Crystal Palace Move
Jorgen Strand Larsen, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, has candidly discussed the immense pressure he faced at Molineux and explained why his recent transfer to Crystal Palace suits him perfectly. The Norwegian international left Wolves during the January transfer window in a deal worth £43 million, which could potentially rise to £48 million with add-ons.
A Difficult First Half of the Season
Strand Larsen endured a challenging start to the campaign, managing just one goal before his departure. This came after a promising first season where he scored 14 goals, but he failed to replicate that form in his second year. The striker described the past six months as "completely hopeless" and "very tough mentally, physically and in every way possible."
He acknowledged the external pressure at Wolves, especially with the team struggling for wins and the sacking of manager Vitor Pereira. "When you have zero wins after half a season, there is of course a lot of pressure from outside," Strand Larsen told Norwegian outlet VG. "We footballers also put a lot of pressure on ourselves. We have high expectations and everyone wants to take new steps and be 'the main man'. Especially me who didn’t quite get it. So, it was tough, but that’s in the past now."
Why Crystal Palace is the Right Fit
Since joining Crystal Palace, Strand Larsen has expressed confidence in his new club. He highlighted that Palace's style of play aligns well with his strengths as a forward. "Palace suits me very well. It’s a style of play that suits me well. We have players who can put me in good situations, so I think it’s going to be very good," he said.
The striker also reflected on his time at Wolves with respect, stating, "I didn’t want it to end that way at Wolves, because it’s a fantastic club that I care about. I hoped things would change, but for me it was important to take a step forward." His move follows rejected bids from Newcastle United last summer, underscoring the competitive interest in his talents.
This transfer marks a significant shift for Strand Larsen, who aims to revive his career in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if this change of scenery helps him return to the goal-scoring form he displayed in his debut season at Wolves.
