Runners are being invited to lace up their trainers for a spectacular charity challenge set against the breathtaking backdrop of a historic Welsh country estate. The popular Parc Margam 10k and 5k event will return for its fifth anniversary in 2026, promising participants a unique blend of fitness, fundraising, and stunning scenery.
A Scenic Sprint Through History
The event, sponsored by Trade Centre Wales, will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, within the grounds of Margam Park in Neath Port Talbot. Participants can choose between a 10k or a 5k mixed-terrain route that winds through the park's picturesque landscape. The course offers views of the magnificent Grade I listed Tudor mansion, Margam Castle, and its resident population of roaming deer.
Adding an extra layer of intrigue to the run is the park's recent rise to international archaeological fame, following the discovery of an ancient Roman villa on the grounds. Runners will literally be following in the footsteps of history with every step they take. Organisers note that the route is all-terrain, encompassing woodland paths and inclines, and can become muddy in wet weather, adding to the challenge.
Running for Two Vital Causes
Every entry fee will contribute directly to two charities nominated by the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot for the year. The chosen causes are Type-1-derful, a local initiative supporting children with Type 1 diabetes under the umbrella of Diabetes UK, and Alzheimer's Society Cymru, which provides help to anyone affected by dementia in Wales.
Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Councillor Wayne Carpenter, said: "This event is a chance for our residents, as well as people from further afield, to take part in a unique run whilst enjoying beautiful scenery. It also raises funds for my nominated charities this year, which is wonderful. Both deliver vital services and are two very worthy causes."
While there is no additional obligation for participants to raise sponsorship, any extra fundraising efforts would be greatly appreciated by the charities.
Event Logistics and How to Take Part
The event day will begin with check-in opening at 9am at Margam Castle. Free parking will be available for all participants in the main car park, which also opens at 9am. Both the 10k and 5k runs will start at 10am. The 5k route consists of one lap, while the 10k challenge requires runners to complete two laps of the scenic circuit.
As a reward for completing the run, every participant will receive a special 2026 Parc Margam commemorative medal at the finish line. Please note that all participants must be 14 years of age or older on the day of the event.
Mark Bailey, Trade Centre group chairman and founder, expressed his support: "Trade Centre Wales is delighted and proud to support the Parc Margam 10k again in 2026. As a leading local business and employer, we’re committed to playing an active role in the community. We look forward to meeting runners from all over south Wales on March 15."
Those interested in joining this community-focused charity run in South Wales are encouraged to register promptly to secure their place in what promises to be a memorable celebration of sport, scenery, and solidarity.
