A brand new badminton championship is set to launch in Basildon this weekend, following a collaborative effort by local sports enthusiasts to bring the major event to the town. The exciting tournament will welcome players and spectators from across the county on June 13.

Organisers Manoj Remala and Chandra Maddi secured a donation from housebuilder Redrow to fund posters and leaflets advertising the big day. More than 18 clubs from across Essex have already signed up to compete.
Community Impact
The local organisers hope the Basildon Badminton Championship will become a popular annual fixture for the town. Over 180 players and 200 spectators are expected to attend, with many travelling from neighbouring counties and beyond.
The successful tournament is being supported by the nearby Westley Green housing development in Langdon Hills.
