Rabbit Run Wales 2026 Adds Marathon and Ultra Marathon

Rabbit Run Wales Returns Bigger for 2026 with New Distances

Rabbit Run Wales is set to make a grand comeback in 2026, promising to be larger and more thrilling than ever before. Scheduled for Saturday, July 18, this year's event introduces two exciting new race distances: a marathon and an ultra marathon, alongside a marathon relay option. The beloved 12K race will continue, offering runners the chance to traverse the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate and the Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve, featuring iconic elements like the river crossing and the Big Dipper, Wales' highest sand dune.

Expanded Routes and Scenic Highlights

For 2026, the previous 40K race has been extended to a full marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers, while a new 65K ultra marathon has been added to the lineup. Both the marathon and ultra marathon routes incorporate all the highlights of the 12K race, plus additional stretches along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. Participants will enjoy dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and breathtaking views, with key spots including Ogmore River, Ogmore Beach, Southerndown, Dunraven Bay, and the picturesque village of Monknash. Ultra runners will venture even further with a scenic loop through Llantwit Major.

Team Challenge and Organizer Insights

For those seeking a group adventure, the event debuts a marathon relay, open to 20 teams of up to five runners each, with legs split into varying distances. Steve Brace, race director at Run 4 Wales, expressed enthusiasm: "Rabbit Run Wales is a true trail running paradise with diverse terrains. Adding a marathon and ultra marathon for 2026 is incredibly exciting, giving runners more time to soak up the stunning scenery—from forest tracks and rugged climbs to sandy dunes. We can't wait to welcome everyone to these new challenges."

Event Details and Early Bird Offers

The event is organized in partnership with the Merthyr Mawr Estate. A limited number of early bird entries are available across all three distances, offering a £5 saving compared to general entry. For the marathon relay, the cost is £85 per team, or £75 for affiliated teams. Additionally, booking is open for camping and forest sauna sessions at Candleston Woods, allowing participants to fully immerse themselves in nature over the weekend.
