Two new outdoor netball courts have been completed at Marl Pits Leisure Centre in Rawtenstall, providing dedicated facilities for local sports teams. The project was funded through the local Pride in Place scheme in partnership with Rossendale Borough Council.

The new courts feature two fully painted playing surfaces, new netball posts, balls, bibs, and secure storage equipment. Local leaders say this investment gives the area its first dedicated outdoor space for formal matches and community training.
Primary Users: Rossendale Rockets Junior Netball Club
Rossendale Rockets Junior Netball Club will be the primary group using the courts for their regular weekly practice sessions. The courts will be closed to the public during these structured training times and when the area is used for overflow parking. The junior club has expanded rapidly in recent years despite previously having no permanent outdoor home.
Local leaders hope the new space will encourage even more children and teenagers to stay active and try the sport. Members of the public can also book the courts for informal games, club training, or regular block sessions. Residents are encouraged to contact the council to check session times and open availability.

Councillor Michelle Smith, member champion for younger people, said: "Seeing more young people getting involved in netball over the past few years has been one of the real success stories in Rossendale. She added: "This new court at Marl Pits gives them, and the next generation coming through behind them a new place to train, play and enjoy the game.
