FCDO Updates Travel Advice for 6 Countries Including Austria

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has updated travel advice for six countries, including European Union member Austria and popular long-haul destinations Cuba and Belize. The changes come amid fuel shortages, Ebola outbreaks, and security concerns.

Austria

The FCDO removed information about the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 from its Austria travel page. The contest was won by Bulgarian pop star Dara with the song Bangaranga, scoring 516 points. The UK entry, Look Mum No Computer, placed last with one point from the Ukrainian jury.

Cuba

On 13 May 2026, the Cuban government announced it had exhausted reserves of diesel and fuel oil. This has caused severe disruption to essential infrastructure and services, including transport, medical care, and communications. The FCDO warns that all international airports are without aviation fuel. Terminal 2 at José Martí International Airport is closed, and flights from Canadian airlines, Air France, and LATAM are suspended. Iberia and Air Europa have reduced flights between Havana and Madrid. The situation could deteriorate quickly, and travellers are advised to consider leaving if possible.

Belize

The FCDO updated information on the ongoing 30-day state of emergency in parts of Belize City and Belize District, implemented due to a surge in gang-related violence. A curfew for minors (8pm to 6am) is in effect, requiring adult supervision.

Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo

Both countries face an Ebola outbreak. Uganda has reported cases linked to the DRC outbreak, which has 246 suspected cases and 88 deaths. The World Health Organisation declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The FCDO advises checking entry requirements and health screening measures.

Bolivia

The FCDO advises against all travel to the department of La Paz, including the city, due to reports of possible violence and disruption on 18 and 19 May 2026, particularly near government buildings.

Travellers are urged to research destinations, obtain appropriate insurance, and monitor FCDO updates.
