Storm Claudia Disrupts Birmingham Trains Amid Heavy Rain Warnings
Storm Claudia Cancels Birmingham Train Services

Travellers across the West Midlands are facing severe disruption as Storm Claudia batters the region with persistent, heavy rainfall, leading to widespread train cancellations and delays.

Major Service Alterations and Cancellations

Birmingham New Street and Birmingham Moor Street stations are at the heart of the travel chaos, with services being cancelled, delayed, or revised. National Rail has confirmed that a reduced service will be in operation throughout Friday, November 14.

Specific disruptions include the complete cancellation of trains at Four Oaks and Redditch stations. Furthermore, no trains or replacement buses will operate between Hereford and Worcester, severely impacting commuters on that route.

Chiltern Railways services are also heavily affected, with no trains running north of Birmingham Moor Street or on the line to Stratford-upon-Avon. The company has advised that tickets dated for Friday, November 14, can be used on Saturday 15th, Sunday 16th, or Monday 17th instead.

Weather Warnings and Wider Travel Advice

The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for large parts of England and Wales, forecasting 60-80mm of rain in some areas, potentially a month's worth in 24 hours. Chief meteorologist Matthew Lehnert warned that the slow-moving nature of the downpours significantly increases the risk of flooding.

The AA has issued a stark warning to motorists, advising against travel in the "hazardous weather." They emphasised that flood water can appear quickly and even shallow water poses a serious danger to vehicles.

Despite preparations by rail authorities, Marcus Jones, Network Rail’s Western route director, urged passengers to check their journeys before setting out and allow extra time due to the expected ongoing disruptions into the weekend.
