Car manufacturer Stellantis has issued an urgent safety recall for more than 320,000 Jeep vehicles in the United States. The action comes after the discovery of a fault with the high-voltage battery that could potentially lead to a vehicle fire.
Which Vehicles Are Affected?
The recall specifically targets plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. It covers 2020-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe and 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe models. In total, 320,065 vehicles are part of this major safety action.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified the core problem: the high-voltage battery may experience an internal failure. This serious defect is what prompts the immediate safety measures for owners.
What Owners Must Do Immediately
The advice from both Stellantis and the NHTSA is clear and critical for owner safety. Owners of the affected Jeep models are being told to take two important steps until a permanent repair is available.
First, they are advised to park their vehicles outside and away from structures, such as homes and garages. This precaution is to minimise the risk of a fire spreading to a building if one were to start.
Second, owners must refrain from charging their vehicles. Charging the faulty battery could increase the risk of an internal failure occurring.
Other Major Recalls Announced
This Jeep announcement coincides with other significant vehicle recalls in the US. Honda is recalling 406,290 vehicles, including certain 2016-2021 Civic models. The issue is a manufacturing flaw with 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels sold as accessories, which could cause a wheel to detach.
Furthermore, Toyota has announced a massive recall of 1,024,407 vehicles. This affects certain Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles from model years 2022 to 2026. A software error in the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system can cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when reversing, violating federal safety standards.
For Jeep owners, the initial notification letters are scheduled to be sent out after December 2, 2025. A second communication will follow once a final repair solution is developed and available. All repairs will be carried out free of charge.
