Storm Claudia Aftermath: 15 Flood Warnings Hit Midlands, Travel Chaos
Storm Claudia Aftermath: 15 Flood Warnings in Midlands

The West Midlands is grappling with the significant aftermath of Storm Claudia this morning, facing widespread disruption across road and rail networks.

Widespread Travel Disruption

Heavy rain and powerful winds that battered the region on Friday, November 14, have left a trail of obstruction. Multiple roads are flooded, with the A4123 Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury reported as completely impassable due to flood water. The storm also brought down trees, blocking key railway lines.

National Rail has confirmed that the line between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley is blocked due to a fallen tree, causing delays to services from Birmingham New Street.

Official Flood Warnings Issued

In response to the ongoing situation, the Environment Agency has issued 15 new flood warnings across the region for Saturday, November 15. This formal alert urges residents in affected areas to take immediate action.

The Met Office had previously activated an amber and a yellow warning for rain, with the yellow alert expiring at 6am this morning.

What's Next for the Weather?

The forecaster has stated that conditions across England are set to remain cloudy and damp today, a marked contrast to the severe weather of yesterday. For Birmingham, light showers are forecast for around 7pm and 8pm tonight.

A Met Office spokesperson said: 'Remaining cloudy and damp across England and Wales with patchier rain and drizzle compared to Friday. Drier and brighter for much of Northern Ireland and Scotland, with some sunny spells. Mild in the south, cold in the north.'

Authorities continue to advise caution while travel networks work to restore normal services.
