A weather warning for fog has been issued for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region, set to bring potentially difficult travel conditions on Wednesday morning.
Details of the Fog Warning
The Met Office alert is active from midnight tonight until 10am on Wednesday, December 17. Forecasters warn that areas of fog will develop on Tuesday night, starting in the west of the warning area before spreading eastwards. Some patches are expected to become dense, significantly reducing visibility for drivers and commuters during the morning rush hour.
The Met Office stated the fog may lead to difficult travel conditions, urging residents to plan journeys accordingly and allow extra time.
Christmas Week Weather Outlook
Looking ahead to the festive period, the forecast suggests a white Christmas is unlikely for the West Midlands this year. According to the BBC's outlook for the week beginning Monday, December 22, the region can expect predominantly cloudy weather with periods of light rain.
Christmas Eve is predicted to be cloudy with a gentle breeze. Christmas Day in Birmingham is forecast to follow a similar pattern, with cloudy skies, light rain at times, and a daytime temperature around 6°C, dropping to a low of 3°C overnight, as per AccuWeather.
Further rain is expected across the region on Saturday, December 27.
Rest of the Week's Forecast
Following the foggy start on Wednesday, the weather is set to become increasingly unsettled. A band of rain will push eastwards, bringing widespread rain, heavy downpours, and strengthening winds, likely causing travel disruptions. The maximum temperature will be around 10°C.
The outlook from Thursday to Saturday remains changeable. Thursday will stay unsettled with further heavy and potentially disruptive rainfall. Friday offers a brief respite, expected to be drier and brighter, before another rain band moves in across the West Midlands on Saturday. Conditions will often be breezy throughout this period.
