M6 Shut in Both Directions in Midlands Due to Police Incident

The M6 motorway in the Midlands has been shut in both directions due to a police-led incident. The closure is in place between Junction 14 (Stafford) and Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme) as of Monday, June 1.

The incident, which reportedly involved a pedestrian, occurred shortly before 6pm. National Highways has confirmed that Staffordshire Police are leading the response, with traffic officers on scene managing strategic closures on the approach.

Diversion Routes

Drivers are being diverted via two routes. For northbound traffic, the hollow triangle symbol on road signs indicates the following route: leave the M6 at Junction 14, take the A34 northbound to Hanford, then follow the A500 westbound to Junction 15 roundabout, and rejoin the M6 northbound.

Southbound traffic should also follow the hollow triangle symbol: exit at Junction 15, take the second exit at Hanchurch Roundabout onto the A500 Queensway eastbound, bear left at Hanford Interchange onto the A34 southbound, continue to Stafford, then at Creswell Interchange (Junction 14) take the second exit to rejoin the M6 southbound.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "If you are travelling from further afield, you may wish to use the M1 and A50. If this closure impacts your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."

Delays of up to 40 minutes are being reported on approaches to the junctions as vehicles queue to exit the motorway.
