A man has died after a car crashed into a building in the Black Country. Six others were injured in the incident on High Street in Princes End, Tipton at around 10.20pm on Tuesday, June 2.
Six ambulances, three paramedic officers, a critical care car, HART paramedics and a MERIT trauma team responded to the scene. Medics found the driver, a man, with critical injuries and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Injuries sustained
A female passenger sustained serious injuries and received advanced trauma care before being taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Two boys from the car suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital together in the same ambulance.
Ambulance staff also treated two girls from the car who had potentially serious injuries. They were taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further care, a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said. A passing cyclist also suffered minor injuries and was discharged at the scene.
Ambulance service statement
WMAS said: "Crews arrived to find a car which had been involved in a collision with a building. The driver, a man, was in a critical condition. He received advanced life support on scene but was sadly confirmed deceased by ambulance staff a short time later."
"A woman passenger sustained serious injuries and ambulance crews administered trauma care before she was conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Two boys from the car sustained minor injuries and were conveyed in the same ambulance to hospital."
"Two girls from the car suffered potentially serious injuries and received trauma care from the team of medics before both were taken on blue lights and sirens to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further care. A man, believed to be a passing cyclist, sustained minor injuries and was discharged on scene and left in the care of relatives."
West Midlands Police has been approached for comment.
