Met Office Issues New Snow Warning for Midlands from Sunday
New Snow Warning for Midlands from Sunday

The Met Office has officially issued a fresh yellow weather warning for snow and ice, set to impact parts of the Midlands from Sunday, 4 January 2026. This alert follows a recent bout of snowfall that affected the region overnight into Friday.

Warning Area and Timing

The new warning is active throughout Sunday and Monday. It covers a significant portion of Wales and extends into the Midlands, specifically including Stoke-on-Trent and areas of Staffordshire and Shropshire.

According to the latest Met Office weather maps, snow is possible from Sunday afternoon and into the evening across these regions. Many residents within the alert zone could wake up to a covering of snow on Monday morning.

Expected Snowfall Amounts

While not every location under the warning will see accumulation, forecasters predict that many places could see between 1-3 cm of snow by Monday morning. There is a potential for more significant build-ups in isolated spots.

Experts have indicated that up to 8cm could accumulate in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher ground in Wales.

Official Forecast and Hazards

The Met Office stated: "Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of north-west England, the West Midlands and south-west England during Sunday evening."

"Along windward coasts, rain and sleet is more likely, but inland showers will fall as snow," the forecast continues. The authority also warned that icy patches are likely to form widely, creating potential hazards for motorists and pedestrians.

This latest alert serves as a prompt for residents in the affected areas to prepare for potential travel disruption and cold conditions as the new working week begins.
