Birmingham Braces for January Snow as Temperatures Set to Hit 0°C
Snow forecast for Birmingham with temperatures to hit 0°C

Birmingham and the wider West Midlands are preparing for a potential wintry blast in the first week of the new year, with fresh forecasts indicating snow and plummeting temperatures.

Snow Flurries Predicted for Early January

While the skies are expected to remain clear of snow until after the New Year, a significant change is on the horizon. Forecasts now suggest that flurries could arrive in the region during the first week of 2026.

Specific data from weather mapping service WX Charts indicates a band of snow may develop over southern parts of Birmingham and into Solihull in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 January. This band is projected to extend southwards into Worcestershire and Warwickshire around 6am.

Freezing Conditions to Grip the Region

Alongside the potential snowfall, residents are being warned to brace for a sharp drop in temperature. The mercury is forecast to tumble to 0°C, bringing widespread freezing conditions across the West Midlands.

The Met Office's long-range forecast, covering the period from 28 December to 6 January, suggests high pressure will initially dominate, leading to settled and largely dry weather for the final days of 2025. Conditions are expected to be often cloudy with only light rainfall where it occurs.

Met Office Outlook for the New Year

The national forecaster states that little change is anticipated as the UK moves into 2026, with settled conditions likely to persist for many areas through the first week of January. However, they note a small chance of more unsettled, wetter, and milder weather developing at times, particularly in northern parts of the country.

For the West Midlands, the combination of predicted low temperatures and precipitation creates the ideal conditions for snowfall, marking a chilly start to the new year after a relatively snow-free festive period.
