Speed Camera Vans Catch Hundreds on Birmingham A Roads

West Midlands Police speed camera vans are actively monitoring the region's busiest A roads, catching hundreds of speeding drivers each day. These mobile units are deployed unpredictably across various routes, making it difficult for motorists to anticipate their locations.

Hotspot Roads Revealed

A Freedom of Information request by BirminghamLive uncovered the most targeted roads. The A4041 Newton Road in Great Barr recorded the highest number of speeding incidents, with 941 vehicles caught up to November last year on the route towards West Bromwich. Nearby, the A34 near Scott Arms saw 866 speeding tickets issued by the vans.

Why Mobile Vans Are Effective

Unlike fixed cameras, which drivers can learn to avoid by briefly slowing down, mobile speed camera vans introduce an element of surprise. This unpredictability helps enforce speed limits more effectively on roads commonly used for commutes, shopping, and school runs.
