Snow Alert: Up to 8cm Forecast for West Midlands This Sunday
Yellow snow warning for West Midlands this weekend

The first full working week of the new year is set to begin with potential travel chaos as forecasters warn of significant snowfall across parts of the West Midlands.

Met Office Issues Yellow Warning

The Met Office has placed a yellow weather warning for snow and ice over sections of the region, effective from Sunday evening through to Monday morning. The alert specifically covers Stoke-on-Trent and areas of Staffordshire and Shropshire, coming within a few miles of Wolverhampton and the Black Country.

Meteorologists indicate that a band of snow will move into the region from Wales during Sunday. The first flurries are expected from around 4pm and may persist into the early hours of Monday.

Expected Snowfall and Impacts

While not every location under the warning will see accumulation, many places can expect around 1-3cm of snow by Monday morning. However, in the worst-hit spots, particularly inland and higher areas, there is potential for 5-8cm to build up.

The Met Office has stated that the snow and ice have the potential to cause disruption to travel. Icy patches are also forecast to form widely. This could mean people waking up to snowy scenes on Monday and facing difficult journeys at the start of what is typically the first normal working week after the Christmas break.

Regional Forecast Details

Forecasters explain that snow showers will push inland across Wales, parts of north-west England, the West Midlands, and south-west England during Sunday evening. On windward coasts, precipitation is more likely to be rain or sleet, but inland showers will fall as snow.

Residents across the warned areas are advised to check the latest forecasts and travel information before setting out on Monday morning, as conditions may be hazardous.
