Brentwood Business Improvement District Marks Progress with Safety Initiatives
The Brentwood Business Improvement District, known as Brentwood Connected, has now been operational for two and a half years, demonstrating a sustained commitment to supporting local commerce. In a recent discussion with Kaye Thurgood, the chair of Brentwood Connected, insights were shared regarding the impactful measures implemented to assist businesses and entrepreneurs across Brentwood, Shenfield, and Ingatestone.
Unique Coverage and Collaborative Benefits
This BID stands out due to its extensive coverage, encompassing all three High Streets in the area. This diverse scope has fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas among the levy-paying businesses involved in the project. By uniting these commercial hubs, Brentwood Connected has created a platform for shared growth and innovation, enhancing the overall business environment.
Introduction of Street Rangers
One of the most significant enhancements highlighted by Kaye Thurgood is the deployment of Street Rangers. These dedicated personnel patrol the High Streets regularly, building relationships with local businesses, frequent shoppers, and visitors. Their presence serves as a proactive deterrent against petty theft and shoplifting, contributing to a safer and more welcoming atmosphere.
The Rangers work in close collaboration with the Community Policing Team in Brentwood, aiming to be the friendly, approachable face of the High Streets. This partnership strengthens community ties and ensures a coordinated effort in maintaining public safety.
Police Collaboration and Night-Time Economy
In discussions with local Chief Superintendent Scott Egerton, the focus was on policing strategies within the Brentwood and Ongar constituency. He expressed satisfaction with the efforts of his teams in keeping crime rates low. Increased police patrols on Brentwood High Street have notably improved the perception and vitality of the night-time economy, making the area more attractive for evening activities.
Addressing Youth-Related Concerns
Despite these positive developments, challenges persist, such as groups of youths engaging in disruptive behavior that can make High Street users feel uneasy. The Community Policing Team and Brentwood Connected's Street Rangers are actively addressing this issue by engaging with the youths involved. Their goal is to understand underlying factors and implement measures to discourage misconduct, ensuring a comfortable environment for all.
These concerted efforts underscore a strong commitment to crime reduction and the enhancement of local amenities. The dedication of all parties involved in these initiatives deserves commendation for their excellent work in fostering a secure and prosperous community.
