Law Firm Foot Anstey Celebrates 'Manchesterism' with First National Conference in Manchester
In a significant move highlighting the city's growing economic appeal, the law firm Foot Anstey is hosting its national Partner Conference in Manchester for the very first time this week. The firm attributes this decision to the powerful 'Manchesterism' effect, a concept championed by Mayor Andy Burnham, which has spurred increased business investment across the region.
Strategic Expansion and Strong Financial Performance
Foot Anstey, headquartered in Bristol with over 700 employees and additional offices in Belfast, Exeter, London, Plymouth, and Southampton, recently announced plans to expand its workforce in the North West. This initiative follows the firm's strongest-ever financial results, reporting revenues of £76.9 million for the 2024/25 fiscal year.
The firm aims to enhance its legal services in key growth areas for the North West, including retail, sports, infrastructure, and technology. Additionally, Foot Anstey is committed to breaking down barriers in the legal profession through initiatives like its award-winning Achieve vacation scheme, which supports Black and minority ethnic candidates across the UK, including Manchester.
Social Investment and Economic Confidence
Foot Anstey's commitment extends beyond business growth, with a pledge to donate 1% of its annual net profits to responsible business programmes. This has already benefited Greater Manchester initiatives such as the Wood Street Mission.
Martin Hirst, managing partner at Foot Anstey, expressed confidence in the region, stating: "The high calibre of our established team in Manchester as well as positive economic data gives us the confidence to make further investment in Manchester and the wider North West region. This is why we have selected Manchester as the location for our partner conference this year bringing people together at the heart of this exceptional business environment. I look forward to seeing the positive impact we will create in Manchester in the years ahead, not just in business terms but in social investment too."
Embracing Manchester's Economic Strength
Melanie McGuirk, a partner at Foot Anstey in Manchester, highlighted the city's allure: "The 'Manchesterism' effect is certainly being noticed in other parts of the country and is a major pull factor for business. The strength of Manchester’s economy is an important part of our decision as a firm to commit to this city. It’s a city that is growing in confidence and capability, attracting high-growth companies and exceptional talent, and we’re committed to being part of that continued growth."
Jan Levinson, another partner in Manchester, added: "We are building a powerhouse law firm, backed by exceptional talent and a clear vision for growth. Over the coming year, we will continue to expand our capability to support the most complex commercial disputes and high-value advisory matters, working alongside the region’s most ambitious organisations and leaders."
This conference marks a pivotal moment for Foot Anstey as it deepens its roots in Manchester, leveraging the city's dynamic business environment to drive both commercial success and social impact.
