£18.8m Wireless Tech Fund for North Wales Businesses

Ambition North Wales has unveiled a new £18.8 million fund aimed at helping businesses in the region upgrade their wireless technology systems. The advanced wireless technology grant fund will run until March 2030 and is available for projects based in North Wales.

Grant Details and Eligibility

The fund will cover up to 50% of eligible project costs, with individual grants ranging from £20,000 to £2 million. Eligible technologies include the latest Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, Wi-Fi, and satellite communications systems, which can enhance connectivity, automate processes, and improve operational efficiency across various industries.

Businesses must be based in North Wales and demonstrate the capability to deploy medium-to-large-scale wireless solutions. They also need to show how the investment will support outcomes such as job creation and attract additional investment into the region.

Background and Strategic Importance

Ambition North Wales, a statutory body, oversees the North Wales Growth Deal, which aims to secure £1 billion of investment into the region's economy. The Welsh and UK governments have committed £240 million, with the remainder expected from other sources, including the private sector. The body also has responsibilities for delivering a regional strategic transport plan, a strategic development plan, and promoting economic well-being across the six local authorities of North Wales.

Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy, Adam Price, added: “Advanced wireless technologies are key to unlocking productivity and driving economic growth. This significant funding will empower North Wales businesses to modernise their operations, attract further investment and create high-quality employment opportunities across the region.”

I’m proud that our investment into the North Wales Growth deal is helping deliver grants to allow businesses to improve their technology and supercharge their productivity.
