Aston Villa have completed the signing of winger Alejandro Garnacho on an initial season-long loan from Chelsea, with the deal set to become permanent if he makes a specified number of appearances next season. The 22-year-old Argentina international believes manager Unai Emery can help him rediscover the form that first propelled him into the limelight at Manchester United.
Garnacho's move to Villa Park
Garnacho only joined Chelsea last summer in a £40 million move from Manchester United, but he struggled to produce his best form during his time at Stamford Bridge. Now embarking on a new chapter in his career, the winger is eager to get started under Emery and make a fresh impact.
“I’m really happy to be here,” Garnacho told Villa TV. “I can’t wait to start on the pitch. It’s an important club that is growing really quickly, so I can’t wait to get started. I was looking for a club to get confidence at and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United.”
Confidence from Emery
Garnacho revealed that a conversation with Unai Emery was key to his decision. “I spoke with the manager and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team,” he said. “I spoke with Unai before I came here and he gave me confidence. That’s why I’m here.”
The winger also highlighted Villa's participation in the Champions League as a major draw. “I saw the Europa League last season and now we’re joining the Champions League; it’s important to be a part of this. The Champions League is the best one, so we’re going to play in that this season. I’m really happy about that and hopefully we can do something important.”
Playing at Villa Park
Garnacho expressed his excitement about playing at Villa Park, calling it one of his favourite stadiums in the league. “It is one of my favourite stadiums in the league and now it will be my home. I’m really happy and I can’t wait to meet the fans,” he added.
The loan move represents a fresh start for Garnacho, who burst onto the scene at Manchester United but saw his progress stall at Chelsea. Under Emery, Villa will hope to harness his pace and creativity as they balance Premier League and Champions League commitments.
