Tesco Introduces New £10 Cap Rule at 600 Petrol Stations from Friday
Tesco New £10 Cap Rule at 600 Petrol Stations Friday

Tesco is rolling out a £10 boost for drivers at over 600 stores tomorrow, just in time for the May bank holiday. Between Friday, May 1 and July 31, drivers can get 5% cashback on fuel purchases from £5 to £200 when they pay with an eligible Barclays debit card.

Offer Details

Barclays, the high street bank with branches in Birmingham, stated: 'This offer only applies to fuel at any Tesco petrol station, excluding Esso stations linked to Tesco stores. A minimum spend of £5 per transaction applies.' Use an eligible personal Barclays debit card to pay for your fuel. Cashback is typically credited 1-2 working days after the fuel transaction leaves your account.

However, the cashback is capped at £10 per calendar month. Eligible cards include those linked to the following current accounts: Barclays Basic Current Account, Barclays Bank Account, Premier Current Account, Student Additions/Higher Education Account, and Wealth Current Account. Customers must be 18 or older and UK residents. Excluded accounts include Barclays Plus, Youth/Young Person, and Private Bank Current Accounts.

Cashback Limits

Barclays clarified: 'The maximum amount of cashback any customer can earn is £10 every calendar month. If you use more than one Barclays debit card, your individual limit is still £10. For example, if you have a joint account as well as a sole account, the limit is still £10 per calendar month.' EV charging is not included in the offer, and Esso filling stations are excluded.

Cashback will be paid into the same account used for the fuel purchase, usually within 1-2 working days. The credit will appear as 'Barclays Fuel CB' on your statement.

Important Timing

Barclays explained: 'The £10 cap applies to cashback earned from fuel purchased in a particular month. It’s the date of the purchase that matters, not when you received the cashback. For example, if you bought petrol on May 31, although you wouldn’t get the cashback until June, it would only count towards your May cashback total.'

Barclays UK chief executive Vim Maru said: 'Through our partnership with Tesco, we’re able to offer savings on fuel at a time when costs are rising, helping customers make their money go that bit further. This sits nicely alongside our £200 switcher offer for new customers wanting to open a Barclays current account.'

Tesco UK chief executive Ashwin Prasad added: 'Thanks to our partnership with Barclays, Tesco shoppers across the country will now be able to get cashback when they fill up their tank at Tesco using their Barclays debit card.'
