Juventus are reportedly set to hold a meeting today to discuss the possibility of signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez. The discussion will centre on whether a transfer for the Argentina number one is still feasible, according to Sky Italy.
Juventus to Assess Budget Before Opening Negotiations
Once the Bianconeri can confirm their budget for a potential swoop, they will open negotiations with Aston Villa. Sky Italy also claims that Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario remains a secondary option, but Juventus want to exhaust all possibilities for Martinez first.
CEO Carnevali Comments on Martinez Interest
Speaking at the presentation of Sky in Italy’s programming schedule, Juventus CEO and general manager Giovanni Carnevali said: “Martinez is playing (at the World Cup) so we have to wait and see. He is a goalkeeper who interests us. However, I reiterate what I said earlier regarding Juventus: there could be many opportunities. We need to evaluate things carefully, especially right now, given that the valuations for some players are excessively high - unrealistic figures.”
Martinez's Recent History with Aston Villa
Martinez came close to leaving Villa last summer, with a deadline day move to Manchester United on the cards before the Red Devils opted to sign Senne Lammens instead. After staying at Villa, Martinez cemented his status as a club legend by winning the Europa League and playing a key role in helping secure a top four finish in the Premier League for the second time in three seasons.
