Newcastle Medical Insole Maker Opens Sheffield Factory

Peacocks Medical Group, a Newcastle-based orthotics specialist, has opened a second manufacturing facility in Sheffield as part of a major expansion. The new 4,000 sqft site will increase the company's production capacity by 30%, helping to meet growing demand from the NHS.

Investment in Advanced Manufacturing

The new facility reflects Peacocks' commitment to next-generation manufacturing, with both its Sheffield sites transitioning to high-tech, automated production methods using 3D manufacturing technology and robotics. CEO David Stevens described the investment as a "fundamental shift" in how the company makes products for patients.

Own-Brand Products and Distribution Deals

Alongside the boosted production capacity, Peacocks has developed its own brand products and secured exclusive UK distribution agreements with specialist manufacturers including Wellwalking, Fito, On Zen and MediRoyal. Several other agreements are in advanced stages. These partnerships bring new clinical technologies, data-driven cost-effective products and expanded patient choice to Peacocks, NHS clinicians and commissioners.

David Stevens said: "This is a defining moment for Peacocks Medical Group. Our growth over the past five years reflects the trust that NHS partners have placed in us and this investment is our commitment to earning more of it. With Sheffield operational, our technology programme under way and a genuinely exciting product range coming to market, we are better placed than ever to deliver for patients."

Company Heritage

Peacocks traces its roots back to 1910 when it was founded as J.C. Peacock and Son Ltd during World War I. The company began working with the newly created NHS in 1948, later specialising in plastic orthoses and introducing CAD/CAM technologies and gait analysis in the 1980s. Today, it employs more than 47 clinicians embedded in NHS partner trusts across the country, with over 60 technicians working from its Newcastle site.
