Stagecoach manager wins national award after 40 years

Myrrick Jones, the operations manager at Stagecoach's Porth depot in South Wales, has been honoured with a major national transport award as he approaches four decades of service. His leadership has transformed daily travel for thousands of passengers across the region.

Exceptional improvements at Porth depot

Under Jones's management, the depot achieved a 12% increase in punctuality, a 40% reduction in lost journeys, a 13% drop in customer complaints, and a 23% decrease in avoidable accidents. These remarkable figures earned him the top trophy at the inaugural Leadership in Passenger Transport Awards.

A career behind the wheel to leadership

Jones began his career as a bus driver and now oversees operations at the Porth depot, which runs essential routes across South Wales, including vital small bus services connecting rural communities. He will mark 40 years at the depot in October.

Team effort recognised

Reflecting on his achievement, Jones said: “Being nominated was a shock in itself. There are so many great people across the industry doing an excellent job, so it was a real honour. This award is really for the whole team. We’ve achieved these improvements by working closely with our drivers, duty managers, engineers and commercial colleagues. I’m privileged to work with such a dedicated team at Porth and across South Wales.”

Leadership praised

Stagecoach South Wales managing director Chris Hanson added: “Myrrick's award is thoroughly deserved and reflects both the exceptional improvements made at Porth depot and the collaborative leadership style he brings every day. As he approaches 40 years in the industry, his commitment to our people, our customers and the communities we serve is an inspiration. We’re delighted to see his achievements recognised on a national stage.”

Jones's recognition highlights the importance of dedicated management in public transport, especially in rural areas where reliable bus services are a lifeline for residents.
