Five Birmingham Jewellery Quarter makers have joined forces with a developer to help build an exciting new community in this popular neighbourhood. The Makers Place development, located in the heart of the city's charming Jewellery Quarter, is tipped to become Birmingham's most exciting rental community. The team behind Makers Place has announced five local champions who are helping to shape culture and community at the scheme.
The Makers and Their Roles
The Jewellery Quarter 'makers' have been chosen to play a key role in anchoring the new residential neighbourhood in its local context, embedding the spirit of the Jewellery Quarter throughout the new homes. Plans include music and events in shared spaces, workshops, and social experiences that bring neighbours together. These are run alongside lifestyle amenities such as rooftop terraces, co-working spaces, a private dining room, residents' lounge, cinema, and a 24-hour gym.
The five selected makers are:
- Salmah Abdulsalam, a local poet and storyteller whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, and place. She has written an original Makers Place poem reflecting the rhythm and character of the neighbourhood.
- Warren Murray, a bartender at Jewellery Quarter pub and Caribbean restaurant Temper and Brown, also an artist, dancer, and music connoisseur. He is curating playlists for the building.
- Pete Dovaston, Director and Chef at Maneki Ramen, will host exclusive ramen masterclasses in the private dining room.
- Abi Connolly, wine sommelier and owner of Arch 13, will curate a resident wine programme including 'Wine of the Month', tastings, and a wine club.
- Rosie Lynall, founder of Nails Bab and a renowned nail artist, will host pop-up events for residents.
Developer's Vision
Katie Hannibal, General Manager of Makers Place, said: "The launch of Makers Place signals the arrival of something bold and exciting for Birmingham's rental scene. This isn't just another development, it's a new neighbourhood, purpose-built for people who want more from where they live. Combining texture, bold design, community-focused shared spaces and a strong sense of identity, Makers Place is set to become the most sought after new address in the city centre."
She added: "Makers Place is about more than just renting an apartment; it's about feeling connected to where you live. Our local makers bring that to life in a unique and authentic way. They represent the creativity and culture of the Jewellery Quarter, and through them, residents will be able to experience a home rooted in the area from day one."
