Residents of Cotmanhay in Erewash are invited to a free summer fun day on Wednesday, July 29, from 10am to 2pm, as the area gears up for a £20 million regeneration boost. The event, hosted by the Cotmanhay Community Network at its hub on Bennerley Avenue, is themed around healthier and happier living and is backed by local GP surgeries.
Government Investment and Community Involvement
The government has pledged £2 million annually for the next decade into Cotmanhay as part of a £5.8 billion national mission to regenerate disadvantaged areas. The borough council has established a new Cotmanhay Neighbourhood Board, allowing residents to work with MP Adam Thompson on deciding how the funds are used.
Festival Activities and Wellbeing Focus
The festival, billed as a "health and wellbeing festival," will feature puppet shows, games, meditation sessions, Zumba classes, free refreshments, and giveaways. A poster promotes it as "a free, friendly community event with interactive activities, advice and local support to help you look after your physical and mental wellbeing." All ages are welcome, and no booking is required.
Quotes from Organisers
Sara Bains, wellness, resilience and inequalities lead for Erewash Primary Care Network and Erewash Health Partnership, said: "We hope to attract families and residents for what is a fun festival with a wellbeing focus." Erewash council leader James Dawson added: "The Pride in Place investment that is heading Cotmanhay’s way is terrific news for an area where we are keen to encourage residents to lead healthier lifestyles. The festival is an ideal opportunity for them to find out how they can do this - so they can make the most of what is going to be a brighter future for the entire neighbourhood."
Community Impact
The event aims to connect residents with local health professionals and services, promoting long-term wellbeing. The Bennerley Avenue hub, already known for Tiny Tots sessions and Zumba, will serve as the venue for this community initiative.
