Welsh Government Commits £8 Million to Deep Water Wind Turbine Developer
The Welsh Government has announced a significant £8 million investment in Swansea-based Marine Power Systems (MPS), a firm specialising in deep water wind turbine platforms. This financial support aims to accelerate the commercialisation of MPS's innovative technology, which targets offshore wind resources in waters too deep for traditional platforms.
Unlocking Deep Water Wind Potential
Approximately 80% of the world's offshore wind resources are located in water depths exceeding 60 metres, beyond the reach of conventional turbine foundations. Marine Power Systems will utilise the investment to market its PelaFlex platform, designed specifically for these challenging deep water environments. This technology could revolutionise the offshore wind sector by accessing previously untapped renewable energy sources.

The £8 million loan from the Cardiff Bay administration represents a strategic move to bolster Wales's position in the renewable energy sector.
