Nike to Cut 1,400 Jobs Globally in Second Wave of Layoffs in 2026
Nike Confirms 1,400 Job Cuts Across Global Markets

Nike has confirmed plans to lay off 1,400 members of its workforce globally, marking its second wave of layoffs in 2026 as the company undergoes a major structural shift.

Second Round of Job Cuts

Venkatesh Alagirisamy, the company's CEO, stated that the redundancies are part of Nike's broader "Win Now" turnaround strategy. He said: "Collectively, these changes will result in a reduction of approximately 1,400 roles in global operations, with the majority in technology. These reductions are very hard for the teammates directly affected and for the teams around them, too."

The cuts represent around 2 percent of the company's overall workforce, spanning the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia. It is not yet known exactly how many people will be let go in the UK.

Company's Strategic Shift

A company spokesperson explained that the job losses are intended to position Nike more effectively. Notifications to affected workers began today. Earlier in January, the company announced 775 job losses across distribution centres in the United States, describing those cuts as essential to achieving "long-term, profitable growth."

Impact on Workforce

This latest round of layoffs underscores Nike's ongoing efforts to streamline operations and adapt to changing market conditions. The company has not provided specific details on which departments or regions will be most affected beyond noting that technology roles will bear the brunt of reductions.
