Co-operative Bank Reintroduces £175 Switching Incentive with Charity Partnership

The Co-operative Bank has brought back its popular switching deal, offering customers the opportunity to receive up to £175 for moving their current account. This initiative, timed to coincide with International Women's Day, includes a significant charitable component through the bank's partnership with domestic abuse charity Refuge.

Financial Rewards and Competitive Savings

New and existing customers who complete a full switch can pocket an initial £100 payment. Following this, they will receive £25 monthly for three consecutive months, bringing the total potential reward to £175. Additionally, switchers gain access to a Regular Saver account offering a highly competitive 7.00% AER interest rate.

Customers can save up to £250 each month through this Regular Saver, potentially earning up to £113 in interest over a twelve-month period. This combination of switching bonus and savings opportunity makes the offer particularly attractive for those considering changing their banking provider.

Eligibility Requirements and Account Details

To qualify for the £100 upfront payment, customers must meet several criteria within thirty days of completing their full switch. These requirements include depositing at least £1,000 (which can include transferred balances), maintaining two active Direct Debits, making a minimum of ten debit card or digital wallet transactions, and registering for online or mobile banking services.

New customers must apply for an eligible account while the offer remains active and request a full switch within two weeks of opening their account. Both new and existing customers must complete the switching process within eight weeks of making their initial request.

To receive each of the three £25 monthly "stay" payments, customers must meet the same deposit, Direct Debit, and transaction requirements each month. The offer applies to Standard Current Account, Current Account Plus, Privilege, Privilege Premier, and Everyday Extra accounts, while Smile, Student, and Cashminder accounts are not eligible.

Customers who have received a switching incentive from The Co-operative Bank since November 1, 2022, are excluded from this particular offer.

Charitable Impact and Partnership Details

Throughout March, the bank will make donations to Refuge for qualifying switches completed between March 2 and March 31. For every four customers who successfully switch accounts, the bank intends to fund a safe night in a refuge for a woman and her children fleeing domestic abuse.

Hayley Lowell, Head of Current Accounts at The Co-operative Bank, emphasized the initiative's dual purpose: "Everyone deserves to feel safe, and that belief is at the heart of what we're doing this International Women's Day. We're working closely with Refuge to help women and their children find safety and begin rebuilding their lives."

Lowell added: "And throughout March, for every four customers who switch to us, we'll help fund a safe night for a woman and her children escaping abuse. So whilst new customers can receive up to £175 and access our highly competitive Regular Saver, their switch also helps someone else take an important step towards a safer future. It's a simple yet powerful way for people to make a real difference whilst choosing a bank that shares their values."

Refuge's Critical Work and Statistics

Paula Robinson, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Refuge, highlighted the importance of safe accommodation for domestic abuse survivors: "No woman or child should be made to feel unsafe in their own home. For many survivors of domestic abuse, access to safe accommodation can be the lifeline that makes escaping possible."

Robinson revealed: "In 2024–2025 alone, we supported over 1,400 women and their children through our refuges, but our work is not done. With The Co-operative Bank's support, even more survivors will be able to find the safety they need to rebuild their lives – free from fear."

Refuge assists thousands of survivors daily and operates the National Domestic Abuse Helpline. According to the charity's statistics, more than one in four women across England and Wales will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime, with a woman killed by a current or former partner every five days on average.

This banking initiative represents a unique combination of financial incentive and social responsibility, allowing customers to benefit personally while contributing to a vital charitable cause supporting domestic abuse survivors.
