West Midlands Police have seized £4,000 in cash and arrested three suspected drug dealers after stopping a car in Handsworth. The arrests were made on Thursday, July 16, as part of the ongoing Operation Fearless initiative.
Arrests and Seizures
Officers pulled over a suspicious vehicle on Maxwell Avenue, Handsworth, and discovered a large quantity of cash, two burner phones, and cannabis. Two men from the car were arrested on suspicion of drug offenses. A third man was arrested at a linked address in Perry Barr, where drugs and scales were recovered.
In a separate incident, another man was arrested for indecent exposure after a member of the public pointed him out to officers from the Operation Fearless team.
Operation Fearless
Operation Fearless was launched on Soho Road, Handsworth, on May 13. The intensive policing operation brings together multiple agencies to tackle high levels of crime in the area. Since its launch, officers have made numerous arrests and recovered drugs and weapons linked to criminal activity.
Detective Chief Inspector John Askew, who heads the Operation Fearless team, said: “We’ve made a large number of arrests, and recovered drugs and weapons that are all linked to the criminality that people have been telling us is a big concern in the area. That work will continue, but it’s only one part of the Fearless picture.”
Partnership Approach
The operation involves close collaboration with businesses, Trading Standards, wardens, and other partners to address problems in the area. DCI Askew added: “We work closely alongside businesses, Trading Standards, wardens and others to take a partnership approach to tackling problems in the area. We’re hoping to bring more partners on board over the coming weeks, as our work to make the area safer for all continues. We’ll continue to listen to the concerns of people who live, work and visit the area, and take the right action with partners.”
