The research, conducted by Solmar Villas, evaluated factors such as summer weather reliability, popularity, beach quality, affordability, and visitor numbers relative to local population to compile a definitive ranking.
Top Destinations Unveiled: Almeria and Calabria Share the Spotlight
The study identified two cities jointly claiming the top position: Almeria in Spain and Calabria in Italy. For budget-conscious travellers, Almeria presents an especially appealing option, with one-way flights available for as little as £20 in May, making it an accessible and economical gateway to a Mediterranean escape.
Sharon Bradbury, General Manager at Solmar Villas, expressed enthusiasm about Almeria's performance, stating: "It's no surprise to me that Almería performed so well in this ranking. It's known for its dramatic desert landscape, and is the only desert in mainland Europe. At the same time, it's coastal, boasts beautiful protected natural parks, and enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest places in Europe."
Bradbury further highlighted that many lesser-known destinations outperformed famous tourist hotspots like Ibiza, Mykonos, and Dubrovnik, which ranked lower in the study. She advised: "While these destinations are famous for a reason and have plenty to offer, travellers looking to avoid high prices and heavy crowds may want to consider some of the higher-ranking locations on this list as a cheaper alternative away from the tourist hustle and bustle."
