Arundell Arms Hotel Listed for £2.5m

The Arundell Arms, a historic coaching inn in Lifton, Devon, that is recognized as one of the UK's premier fishing hotels by the Good Hotel Guide, has been placed on the market for £2.5 million. The 18th-century property boasts access to 22 miles of private fishing rights and operates a celebrated fly fishing school, drawing anglers from across the nation. It is also well-known for shooting activities, collaborating with estates throughout Devon and Cornwall.

Property Details and History

The 21-bedroom hotel was under the same family ownership for six decades before being acquired in 2020 by Simon Village and Arabella Monro for an undisclosed sum. The current owners are now seeking to divest after achieving their objectives, according to property broker Christie & Co, which is handling the sale. Knut Wylde, the owner's representative, stated: "The Arundell occupies a position in the market that very few properties in this country can genuinely claim, a sporting hotel of national significance, a food and beverage offer that has earned its reputation on merit, and a character that cannot be franchised."

Facilities and Features

Wylde added: "For the new owner, whether an experienced operator or a passionate individual seeking a landmark address with real substance, The Arundell represents an opportunity that is literally once in a generation." The hotel includes a gastro pub, an on-site cafe, event facilities, a book-lined guest lounge with a log-burning fire, and a two-bedroom self-catering fishing cottage. Additionally, it features an event space and bar situated on the site of a historic cockfighting pit, one of the few surviving examples in England.

It also includes a separate, self-contained four-bedroom staff flat with its own kitchen. Stephen Champion, director of hotels at Christie & Co, commented: "We are delighted to bring The Arundell to the market, representing a rare opportunity to acquire a high-quality, well-established hotel with a super reputation. We anticipate significant interest from a diverse range of buyers, given the strength of trading and further growth potential on offer."
