The Queens Head Pub Reopens with a Fresh 'Best of Britain' Focus
The Queens Head, a beloved city centre pub in Birmingham, has triumphantly reopened its doors following a comprehensive two-month refurbishment. This historic establishment, located at 28 Steelhouse Lane, is ushering in an exciting new era dedicated to celebrating the very best of the British Isles, aptly named 'British & Best'.
A Return to Roots with Modern Flair
Originally known as The Queens Head, the venue operated as Jekyll & Hyde until its closure in 2021. It reopened under its former name the following year, and now, after this latest closure for renovations, it has been transformed to honour British heritage while offering contemporary comforts. The pub's rich history is deeply intertwined with Davenports brewery, which has managed the site since 1905, including a notable past bottling Guinness stout.
Guinness Takes Centre Stage in Food and Design
The refurbishment pays homage to this longstanding relationship with Guinness through several standout features. A new Guinness Terrace has been installed, providing an outdoor space for patrons to enjoy the iconic stout. Inside, the original label artwork from 1905 is proudly displayed across the pub, adding a touch of historical charm.
The menu has been revamped with a strong British theme, featuring items like the Guinness Burger. This signature dish includes double patties, caramelised onions, potato rosti, a Guinness glaze, and cheddar cheese, all served on a bun branded with the famous Guinness harp. For those seeking classic pub fare, the Chip Butty offers Guinness-battered fish bits accompanied by a jug of gravy.
Intimate and Welcoming Atmosphere
The interior design has been carefully crafted to create a cozy and inviting environment. Key elements include a striking copper bar, private leather booths, and moody walls that foster intimacy while maintaining a friendly social atmosphere. Former manager Harry Higgs, now operations and brand manager for Davenports, expressed his enthusiasm for the changes.
Harry Higgs said: "The Guinness Terrace is such a cool addition for the city, and the intimate booths offer great space for friends and colleagues to gather. The copper bar is so striking, and guests have commented on how authentic and welcoming the pub feels. We're also now offering sports on screens and free live entertainment on Saturdays to reward our customers."
A Pub for All Occasions
Katie McPhilimey, brand and marketing director for Davenports, highlighted the pub's broad appeal. She added: "Davenports, with its rich heritage, is perfectly positioned to deliver a 'British & Best' brand. The décor is special and welcoming, with spaces for everyone, from private booths to social areas indoors and outdoors. In today's challenging world, the comfort and quality of a British pub are exactly what customers need."
The Queens Head aims to be a versatile destination, catering to various needs whether it's a quiet drink, a meal with friends, or enjoying live entertainment. Its reopening marks a significant addition to Birmingham's vibrant pub scene, blending tradition with modern amenities to create a truly unique experience.
