The Victoria Pub in Birmingham Unveils Fawlty Towers-Inspired Cocktail Menu
A popular Birmingham city centre pub has launched a unique limited-edition cocktail menu this week, drawing inspiration from the beloved BBC television series Fawlty Towers. The Victoria, located on John Bright Street, is offering a range of character-themed drinks, including a £3.50 mystery shot that pays homage to the show's memorable moments.
Inspired by Iconic Characters
The menu creatively captures the essence of the classic sitcom, which originally aired in the 1970s and remains a cultural favourite. Each cocktail is named after key characters from the series, such as Basil Fawlty, Sybil Fawlty, Polly, and Manuel. For instance, The Major's Old Fashioned is priced at £9.25 and features bourbon, sugar, Angostura bitters, and orange peel, offering a sophisticated twist on a traditional drink.
Other highlights include Basil's Breakdown Sour at £8.25, made with pisco, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters, reflecting the chaotic energy of the hotel manager. Polly's Punch, also £8.25, combines peach schnapps, orange juice, lemonade, and grenadine for a refreshing option. The menu's standout item is the mystery shot inspired by Manuel, the bumbling waiter, with staff playfully responding to inquiries about its contents with the phrase, I know nothing.
Perfect Timing for Theatre-Goers
This launch coincides with the Fawlty Towers play running at the nearby Alexandra Theatre until Saturday, March 21, making The Victoria an ideal spot for pre-theatre drinks. Situated within walking distance of the theatre, the pub provides a convenient and themed experience for fans and visitors alike. The limited-edition menu is available for a short time, adding an exclusive element to the offering.
The Victoria's initiative not only celebrates a timeless BBC show but also enhances the local cultural scene in Birmingham. By blending entertainment with hospitality, the pub creates a memorable experience that appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers to the series. This move highlights the pub's commitment to innovation and community engagement, setting it apart in the city's vibrant pub landscape.
