Blacklock Chophouse Sets Soft Launch for Birmingham Venue
A highly awaited chophouse restaurant in Birmingham has officially announced a soft launch event prior to its grand opening. Blacklock, a renowned name in the dining scene, will open its doors at St Philip's Place near Pigeon Park on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Historic Building Transformed into Dining Destination
The restaurant will occupy the ground floor of a striking Victorian building, originally a vicarage for Birmingham Cathedral. This space will be converted into a vibrant 100-seat restaurant and bar, promising a memorable setting for long lunches, decadent dinners, and Sunday feasts. Blacklock aims to blend incredible quality, generous hospitality, and great value for money in this new location.
Soft Launch Details and Exclusive Offers
In an email to subscribed customers, Blacklock shared plans for a soft launch to test services and ignite the grill. The event will feature cut-price chops with 50% off food, offering a fun atmosphere where minor mistakes might occur as the team fine-tunes operations. Bookings will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with details to be released soon via a "Save the Date" notification.
Signature Menu and Local Collaborations
The menu will focus on chops and steaks utilizing the whole animal, including prime cuts dry-aged for up to 55 days and affordable lesser-known steaks. Highlights include the popular All In sharing feast of beef, pork, and lamb chops on charred flatbreads, and an award-winning Sunday roast with slow-roasted joints, Yorkshire puddings, and duck fat potatoes. Desserts feature the famous Granny's white chocolate cheesecake.
The drinks menu offers seasonal cocktails, wines on tap, and exclusive beers like Blacklock Brews, developed in partnership with Birmingham Brewing Company. Additionally, the team is creating new dishes exclusive to the Birmingham restaurant, with more information to follow.
Expansion and Ethical Commitments
Blacklock began in London in 2015 and has since expanded to multiple locations, including Manchester in 2024 as its first site outside the capital. The company achieved B Corp certification in 2023, highlighting its dedication to regenerative farming, responsible sourcing, and a no-waste approach. It has also been recognized as one of the Best Companies to Work for in the UK for three consecutive years.
Founder Gordon Ker expressed excitement about entering Birmingham, stating, "We've long hoped to bring Blacklock to Birmingham and can't wait to open in such a beautiful and iconic building. We look forward to becoming part of the local community and building a restaurant the city will embrace."
The soft launch precedes the official opening, inviting diners to experience Blacklock's unique take on the Great British chophouse in the West Midlands.
