In a major development for the UK tourism sector, Evergreen Escapes Group has secured a multimillion-pound deal to acquire two prominent holiday parks in Cornwall. The transaction involves the purchase of Hoburne Doublebois and Hoburne St Mabyn from the Dorset-based operator Hoburne Holidays, marking a strategic expansion for Evergreen in one of the country's most sought-after holiday regions.
Rebranding and Future Plans
Following the acquisition, which is scheduled for completion on February 12, the parks will undergo a rebranding process. They will be renamed as Doublebois Lodge Escape and St Mabyn Lodge Escape, aligning with Evergreen Escapes Group's existing portfolio. The company has announced plans for substantial investment in both accommodation and facilities at these sites, aiming to attract what it describes as "aspirational holiday guests" and lodge owners seeking premium experiences in Cornwall.
Leadership Perspectives on the Deal
Geoff Cowley, Chief Executive at Evergreen Escapes Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. He stated, "With our planned investment and development plans in place, Doublebois and St Mabyn will truly bring to life the 'escape the urban' ethos at the heart of our brand and growing portfolio. These parks embody our core values of space, tranquillity, and exceptional quality." Cowley also acknowledged the legacy of Hoburne Holidays, noting that both parks have benefited from years of outstanding stewardship, and Evergreen is committed to continuing that tradition with enhancements designed to elevate the guest experience further.
On the other side, Jim Forward, Chief Executive at Hoburne Holidays, commented on the disposal of the Cornish parks. He said, "Doublebois and St Mabyn have provided tranquil experiences for many thousands of holidaymakers and owners over the years. While we'll be sad to see them leave the Hoburne family, we have no doubt they are in very safe hands with Evergreen." Forward added that the sale would create new opportunities for investment in Hoburne's remaining locations across Dorset, South Devon, Somerset, Hampshire, and the Cotswolds, reinforcing its position as a provider of family-friendly parks with quality activities.
Employee Retention and Strategic Growth
A key aspect of the deal is the assurance provided to staff. Evergreen Escapes Group has confirmed that all Hoburne Holidays employees based in Cornwall are being offered the opportunity to remain in their roles under the new ownership. This move aims to ensure continuity and maintain the expertise that has contributed to the parks' success.
The acquisition aligns with Evergreen Escapes Group's broader growth strategy. The company aims to expand its portfolio of parks and leisure resorts to between 15 and 20 over the next five years. This deal follows closely on the heels of its recent acquisition of the Manor and Ashbury Resorts in Devon, highlighting a concerted effort to strengthen its presence in the South West of England.
Overall, this multimillion-pound transaction underscores the dynamic nature of the UK holiday park industry, with significant investments being made to cater to evolving consumer preferences and capitalise on the enduring appeal of Cornwall as a premier holiday destination.
