Kingstanding's Golden Hind Reopens as Grandstand Sports Pub After £270k Revamp

The Golden Hind pub in Kingstanding, Birmingham, has officially reopened as a 'Grandstand' sports pub following a significant £271,700 cash injection from Marston's. The relaunch took place on March 25, 2026, after extensive refurbishments that have transformed the venue into a premier destination for sports enthusiasts.

State-of-the-Art Sports Viewing Facilities

Central to the refurbishment is the installation of a new large indoor screen measuring 3x1.68 meters, complemented by state-of-the-art sound systems and tiered seating designed to enhance the live sports viewing experience. The pub promises to broadcast all key sporting fixtures, including football, rugby, cricket, tennis, Formula 1, darts, and horse racing.

In addition to the indoor upgrades, new screens have been added to the refurbished outdoor area, allowing patrons to enjoy matches in the beer garden. To streamline service, customers can order beers directly to their table using Marston's Order and Pay app, ensuring minimal disruption during live events.

Enhanced Amenities and Community Focus

The Golden Hind has been decorated with sports memorabilia and features regulation dart boards and pool tables. The pub is inviting locals to contribute by adding memorabilia of local sports stars to the walls, fostering a sense of community ownership.

A new bar food menu has been introduced, offering popular items such as chicken wings, nachos, fish and chips, and burgers. For beer lovers, two-pint cups are available on request for all draft beers, catering to those who prefer larger servings.

Family-Friendly Activities and Entertainment

Beyond sports, The Golden Hind has planned a variety of family-friendly activities and entertainment nights. Highlights include a kids disco starting at 1pm on Thursday, April 2, a karaoke and disco on Good Friday with children welcome until 9pm, and a performance by vocalist Jessica Broadbent at 9pm on Saturday, April 4, which is adults-only.

On Easter Monday, the pub will host a Lunch Club open to all ages, featuring live entertainment, bingo, food, and an atmosphere of laughter and great company.

Community and Business Impact

Marston's Grandstand concept aims to transform local pubs with strong ties to community groups, charities, and local teams. Pub Partners Robert Jones and Sam Schofield expressed their enthusiasm in a statement, saying, "We've loved welcoming the community back with open arms! The response has been fantastic to our food and drink offers, as well as the new technology to watch all kinds of sports - we're thankful that our pub is always full of good vibes, and real community spirit."

The Golden Hind is located at Kingstanding Road, Kingstanding, B44 8JR, and its reopening marks a significant boost for the local area, providing a vibrant hub for sports fans and families alike.
