Greggs and easyJet have joined forces to launch five innovative sausage roll dips, celebrating the airline's new base at Newcastle International Airport. This unique partnership aims to bring a taste of holiday destinations to travellers and locals alike, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
Global Flavours Take Flight
The collaboration introduces five limited-edition dipping sauces, each inspired by popular holiday spots. Italy's affogato dip features deep roasted coffee, cocoa, and vanilla, while France's tarte tatin blend combines caramelised apple, warm cinnamon, and a hint of thyme. For bolder palates, Tunisia-inspired harissa ketchup mixes rich tomato, sweet date, and tangy pomegranate, alongside a Spanish sangria sauce bursting with red wine, zesty orange, and cranberry. Rounding out the lineup is a Turkish-style kebab dip with aromatic notes of lemon, vinegar, and smoky paprika.
Celebrating Newcastle's New Aviation Hub
The launch coincides with easyJet's new base at Newcastle International Airport, which will host three aircraft and support approximately 1,200 jobs, including 140 direct roles for pilots and cabin crew. Garry Wilson, CEO of easyJet's holidays business, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We're thrilled to launch this base in Newcastle, driven by strong demand in the region. Partnering with Greggs, a true Geordie icon, felt like the perfect way to celebrate our arrival."
Throughout the week, easyJet cabin crew have been serving free sausage rolls with these dips at iconic Newcastle landmarks such as the Tyne Bridge, St James' Park, and the Angel of the North. Holidaymakers flying from Newcastle on Monday received complimentary samples, and locals can access the limited-edition sauces at city centre locations including Grey's Monument and the Quayside.
Expanding Travel Opportunities
Newcastle becomes easyJet's 11th UK base, following recent openings at London Southend Airport and Birmingham. The new base offers over 800,000 seats for holidaymakers, with more than 80 weekly flights to 22 leisure destinations across Europe and North Africa—an 85% increase compared to last summer. New routes include Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm El Sheikh, Nice, and Tenerife.
Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, highlighted the local significance, saying, "As a business born and bred in the North East, we're excited to partner with easyJet for this launch. It's a fantastic opportunity for the community, and celebrating with a sausage roll is the perfect way to mark the occasion." This initiative underscores easyJet's commitment to making travel from Newcastle affordable and accessible while celebrating regional pride.
