Land's End Hotel in Cornwall has reopened following a £1.2 million refurbishment after a devastating fire broke out next to the property last summer. The cliff-top hotel's revamp includes upgrades to its 30-plus bedrooms and a refresh of the restaurant, bar, and terrace. The venue has also launched a new seasonal menu.
Background of the Refurbishment
Owner Heritage Great Britain announced the refurbishment last year after the fire affected the hotel's operations. Trevor Broome, Land's End's general manager, said it had taken "a full team effort" to get the hotel "back up and operating."
“The unfortunate fire back in July 2025 was heart-breaking for all the team, who work so hard to make the visitor experience exceptional at Land’s End,” he said. "Thanks to the support of Heritage Great Britain who are custodians of the site, we have been able to reinvest and rebuild to a higher standard and offer something special for visitors and residents to experience, with local produce and a celebration of the unique landmark we operate in."
Upgrades and Features
The hotel said the upgrade includes styling and lighting in the restaurant by Cornwall lighting specialist Tom Raffield, handmade curtains and soft furnishings made by long-term employee Cynara Jory, a fully restored and upgraded bar and restaurant, a new bar hand-crafted by bar manager Chris Rowell using hardwoods salvaged from across the hotel, and a new menu created by the executive chef.
“The menu blends rustic coastal cooking with modern touches," said executive chef Ian Mitchell. "We want dishes to feel generous, full of flavour and rooted in place rather than overcomplicated. There’s a strong emphasis on seasonality, freshness, and creating food that visitors remember as part of their overall Land’s End and West Cornwall experience."
Historical Significance
Land's End Hotel was originally a Victorian-era retreat run by a local family before the Second World War. In 1941, a Luftwaffe bomb struck the hotel, causing serious damage. Heritage Great Britain acquired the hotel in 1999 and also manages Land's End, the famous landmark and most westerly point of mainland England.
The company recently announced plans for a multi-year summer drone show as part of its 'Magic in the Skies' summer events series, the first summer-long drone and firework show of its kind in Cornwall, in partnership with local drone technology business Afterglow.
