A newly formed musical ensemble has raised £4,400 for Saint Francis Hospice during its debut performance at Corpus Christi Church in Collier Row in July. The concert drew a packed crowd, with tickets selling out ten days before the show, forcing organisers to turn away audience members as the venue reached full capacity.
Overwhelming Local Support Fuels Fundraising Success
The strong local turnout turned the band's launch into a significant financial boost for the hospice, helping to fund essential care and support for local families. Band founder and conductor Paul Binder described the day as "a resounding success", noting that the audience and musicians created an electric atmosphere that culminated in a standing ovation at the end of the concert.
"What the band achieved in just three months from start-up to giving a full concert is beyond my wildest dreams," said Paul. The fundraising total was revealed to band members at a celebratory gathering following the concert.
Band Members from Hospice and Community
"The buzz from both the band and the audience was outstanding," said Paul. "The band members played really well and it resulted in a standing ovation at the end. The feedback from audience members, including Saint Francis Hospice colleagues and supporters, was fantastic."
The concert showcased a band made up of hospice staff, volunteers, healthcare professionals and members of the local community, all brought together through a shared love of music and a desire to support Saint Francis Hospice. Following the success of the debut concert, Paul is already looking ahead to the band's future.
Future Concerts Already Planned
"For me, it's been an exciting few months, seeing this idea grow from a simple question into something real, with genuine momentum," said Paul. "To have gone from an initial conversation to a sell-out debut concert and £4,400 raised for Saint Francis Hospice is something everyone involved should be proud of. The support we've received has been incredible, and there's a real sense that this is just the start of something special. And this is only the beginning."
Tickets are sold out for the Christmas concert at Brentwood School on Sunday, December 13, at 7pm. A second concert is taking place on Tuesday, December 15, from 7.30pm to 9.45pm at The Brandon Groves Community Club, South Ockendon, with tickets available via Christmas Concert Tickets.
