Lisa and Pann, the family-run Malaysian restaurant on Billesley Lane in Moseley, has secured approval from Birmingham City Council to extend its opening hours until 9pm. The restaurant, owned by Lee Sa Tan and Fui Peng Chong, opened in 2023 and had expressed concerns about its financial viability without longer operating hours.
Background of the Application
The restaurant previously told BirminghamLive that the extension was necessary to keep the business afloat. The premises had a contentious history, as a prior application for 11pm opening hours was rejected due to complaints that it would disturb local residents' ability to hear owls. The site was formerly occupied by Melt, a melted cheese restaurant that closed in 2023 after two years of operation.
Community and Council Support
Announcing the approval, Lisa and Pann stated: "We're incredibly excited and grateful to share that our application has officially been approved by Birmingham City Council - which means Lisa and Pann will now be open until 9pm." Moseley Councillor Izzy Knowles backed the application, commenting: "I was happy to add my support as it made total sense to enable the business to thrive and there was no evidence that it will negatively impact local residents."
The decision has been met with enthusiasm from the local community, with many supporters celebrating the news on social media. The extended hours are expected to help the restaurant attract more customers and contribute to the local economy.
