Morrisons Sets June 24 Deadline for Free World Cup Game

Morrisons has launched a free World Cup app game with freebies, setting a strict June 24 deadline for thousands of shoppers to participate. The supermarket chain, which has branches in Birmingham, introduced the sweepstake for its More Card customers ahead of the FIFA tournament starting on Thursday.

How the Sweepstake Works

The new app feature is free to use and gives each customer a randomly allocated team to back for the World Cup, with prizes up for grabs. From June 8 until June 24, More Card app users can log in and reveal their assigned country as part of the promotion. Gareth Lloyd, head of loyalty at Morrisons, explained that the initiative aims to bring the excitement of a traditional football sweepstake to customers while rewarding them throughout the tournament.

“Nothing says a summer of sport like a football sweepstake,” Lloyd said. “This interactive More Card app game allows our customers to enjoy the football with some added rewards, from delicious bakery treats to ice creams and money-off vouchers and millions of More Points.”

Customer Reactions

Some customers have already noticed changes in the app. A Reddit user asked, “Perhaps I have not noticed this but why do I have a flag next to my name on the Morrisons app? I don't recall this before and I didn't see a setting to add it. It's also odd to have an England flag when my profile and shopping in Morrisons all take place in Scotland.”

One shopper wrote: “Did you do the reveal your team thing? I got Spain so I have next to mine and a free bag of bacon crisps.”

How to Participate

Customers who have signed up to the More Card loyalty scheme can take part in the Big Match Sweepstake by tapping the feature on the app. To join, you must reveal your team by Wednesday, June 24. Once revealed, you will receive a freebie, which can include items like Morrisons bakery cookies, ice cream, and fresh fruit.

The retailer is also planning match-day offers for all customers, including those who do not use the More Card app, when England and Scotland are in action during the tournament.
