Birmingham Airport has officially opened the doors to wagamama, the award-winning pan-Asian restaurant chain, in its departure lounge. The new eatery, which spans 363 square metres and seats up to 180 diners, brings a diverse menu of favourites including chicken katsu curry, ramen, rice bowls, and plant-based options, available throughout the day.
Breakfast menu and location
Early-morning passengers can enjoy a dedicated breakfast menu that blends Asian-inspired fusion dishes with classic breakfast staples, perfect for a relaxed start to their journey. The restaurant is situated in the new commercial concourse, just beyond World Duty Free and heading towards gates 1-20. It operates from 4am until the last departure each day, offering both sit-down dining and takeaway options for those in a hurry.
Partnership and expansion
The launch is a result of collaboration with The Restaurant Group Concessions (TRGC), which already runs Giraffe and Indian Brewery at the airport. Richard Gill, Commercial Director at Birmingham Airport, said: "wagamama is a great addition to our restaurant offerings at Birmingham Airport, arriving just as we welcome a busy wave of summer travellers heading off on their holidays. It's a brand our passengers know and love, and its arrival brings even more choice, while strengthening the range of high-quality food and drink in the terminal throughout the day."
Industry milestones
Jonathan Knight, CEO of TRGC, highlighted the significance of the opening: "Opening wagamama at Birmingham Airport is another exciting milestone in our long-standing partnership with the brand and further strengthens our commitment to bringing high-quality dining experiences to travellers across the UK. It's particularly fitting that this opening comes as we celebrate 35 years of airport hospitality, while also looking ahead to an exciting new chapter with Areas that will allow us to continue our expansion and enhance our offering to UK travel hub partners and customers."
Brand enthusiasm
Francisco Neves, SVP Franchise + Partnerships International at wagamama, expressed excitement: "We're so excited to be bringing wagamama to Birmingham Airport and welcoming travellers to a little taste of wagamama before they take off. We know how much our guests love discovering fresh, delicious food wherever their journey takes them, and this new opening gives us another fantastic opportunity to share the wagamama experience with even more people."
Terminal upgrades
The debut of wagamama at BHX is part of ongoing improvements throughout the terminal, including the recently redesigned airside area, which aims to provide a smoother journey for travellers as they move between dining, shopping, and departure gates. This addition enhances the overall passenger experience and supports the airport's growing range of concessions.
