Wetherspoons 2026: New Bucks Pub & First Spanish Venue

Pub giant JD Wetherspoons has kicked off 2026 with a major expansion announcement, confirming the opening of a new site today and revealing plans for its first-ever international location in Spain.

New Buckinghamshire Pub Opens Its Doors

The chain, which operates around 800 pubs across the UK, opened The Chiltern in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. This new venue represents a significant regeneration project, having been transformed from a former 500-seat Picture House cinema that closed back in September 1989.

The launch marks the beginning of an ambitious year for the budget-friendly chain. Founder and chairman Sir Tim Martin stated the company has plans to open approximately 30 new pubs during its current financial year.

Historic First Overseas Wetherspoons Confirmed

In a landmark move for the brand, Wetherspoons has confirmed the location of its inaugural overseas pub. Named the Castell de Santa Bàrbara, it will be situated within the departures area of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport in Spain.

The venue is scheduled to open its doors in February 2026. It will offer travellers classic British pub fare, including full breakfasts, burgers, and pizzas, providing a final taste of home before flights back to the UK.

Sir Tim Martin expressed his enthusiasm for the venture, saying: "We are very much looking forward to opening our first overseas pub. We believe it will be popular with people travelling home from Alicante airport." He added that the company aims to open "a number of pubs overseas in the coming months and years, including those at airports."
