A major UK timber company has been rescued from administration in a deal that has safeguarded 160 jobs and promises significant future growth for the workforce.
Deal Secures Future for Newport-Based Specialist
Premier Forest Products, a leading independent timber distributor and manufacturer, has completed the acquisition of engineered timber specialist National Timber Systems (NTS). The Newport-based firm was purchased from administrators after its parent group collapsed in November 2025.
This strategic move has immediately prevented the loss of 160 positions. Furthermore, Premier Forest Products has announced ambitious plans to expand the combined workforce to approximately 250 employees, signalling strong confidence in the future of the business.
Strategic Fit for UK Housebuilding Ambitions
Terry Edgell, co-founder and chief executive of Premier Forest Products, emphasised the logic behind the acquisition. He stated that NTS was an excellent fit, aligning with the company's existing Mon Timber Engineering operations in south Wales and the southwest.
"This acquisition will help support faster, more efficient housebuilding and modular construction through continued product innovation," Edgell said. He also highlighted the potential for adding extra manufacturing capacity in the future, leveraging Premier Forest's long-term financial stability.
Leadership Teams Express Confidence in Merger
The existing leadership of NTS has welcomed the move. Nick Kershaw, managing director of NTS, expressed his delight at joining a well-established timber specialist with a strong reputation for quality and service.
"We see them as an excellent cultural fit, enabling NTS to continue to grow and develop," Kershaw remarked. He thanked Premier Forest for its trust and confirmed the team's focus on achieving further growth throughout 2026 and beyond.
The rescue is a significant positive development for the UK's construction supply chain, ensuring the continuation of vital engineered timber solutions for customers across the country.
