Historic UK Fish and Chip Equipment Manufacturer Saved from Administration
A major UK manufacturer of frying ranges for fish and chip shops, with roots tracing back to the Victorian era, has been successfully rescued from administration through a strategic acquisition. The company, Henry Nuttall, which was founded in the 1860s in Rochdale, has been purchased by HN Ranges via the RGM Leeds group, ensuring the preservation of all 11 jobs and the continuation of its long-standing operations.
Administration and Rescue Process
The rescue followed a going-concern sale managed by joint administrators Azets. Richard Oddy and Jonathan Amor, restructuring advisors and licensed insolvency practitioners at Azets, explained that Henry Nuttall faced financial difficulties after the owner's death in March 2024, compounded by rising costs and declining product demand. Despite an extensive sale process, no buyer was willing to acquire the company on a solvent basis.
With increasing creditor pressure, time was critical to save this proud brand, which has supplied fish and chip shops across Great Britain for over 150 years, they noted. The acquisition by Hopkins, another major UK frying range manufacturer, secured the business and assets, transferring all jobs to the buyer and providing a better return for creditors compared to liquidation.
New Ownership and Future Prospects
A spokesperson for RGM Leeds confirmed that Henry Nuttall is now part of their group, alongside Hopkins. This move strengthens our long-term future while allowing us to maintain the independent brand trusted by customers, they stated. The spokesperson assured that day-to-day operations will continue normally, with no changes for customers, as the same people, products, values, and service commitment remain intact.
The acquisition brings long-term investment and support, positioning the company for future growth. We are excited about the future and grateful for the ongoing support from our loyal customers, partners, and community, the spokesperson added, highlighting the positive outlook for this historic business.
