Co-op Fresh Mondays: Half-price fruit and veg for shoppers

Co-op, which operates branches in Birmingham, has introduced a new weekly promotion called “Fresh Mondays” that gives customers the chance to save up to 50 per cent on fresh fruit and vegetables. The offer, which runs every Monday, covers a range of produce including blackberries, strawberries, potatoes, apples, grapes, raspberries, tomatoes, asparagus and peppers.

Specific price reductions revealed

Among the discounted items are Co-op Irresistible Exceptionally Sweet Cherry Tomatoes, reduced from £2.70 to £1.35, and Co-op Hand Picked Blackberries (150g), down from £3.25 to £1.63. Branded products also feature, such as Pink Lady Apples (4 pack), cut from £2.85 to £1.43, and Albert Bartlett Home Grown Potatoes (2kg), down from £2.60 to £1.35.

The initiative is designed to give shoppers a predictable weekly opportunity to buy fresh food at a lower price, while potentially supporting higher sales volumes across the participating lines. The promotion follows a separate 24-hour discount event through Uber Eats on 17 August, during which everyday essentials like bread, eggs and milk were reduced.

Retailer’s strategy and recent initiatives

Kate McCrae, retail director at Co-op, said the offer was designed to combine the retailer’s rapid delivery capabilities with own-label products and value offers. She commented on the one-day Uber Eats promotion: “For 24 hours only, we’re making it even easier for shoppers to pick up everyday essentials at an incredibly low price, with the added convenience of having them delivered straight to their door through Uber Eats.”

“We’re experts in rapid delivery here at Co-op and we’re proud to combine this expertise with the very best own-brand products and great-value offers, to keep customers stocked-up round the clock, whatever their needs,” McCrae added.

Building on earlier food waste efforts

The ‘Fresh Mondays’ offer follows the launch of Co-op’s ‘Second Chance Saver Bags’ in June, a joint collaboration with Deliveroo offering online shoppers cut-price fruit and veg to help reduce food waste. The new weekly promotion extends the retailer’s focus on value and fresh produce, giving Birmingham customers a regular chance to stock up on essential items at reduced prices.
